DENTAL ASSISTANT
Flint Hills Community Health Center is accepting applications for 2 full time Dental health assistants (Monday - Thursday, or Tuesday - Friday, rotating schedule). Perform duties related to four-handed chairside assisting for a variety of dental procedures and perform other duties to enhance the function of the dental clinic. JOB SUMMARY: This is a non-exempt position. Perform duties related to fourhanded chairside assisting for a variety of dental procedures and perform other duties to enhance the function of the dental clinic.
- PRIMARY DUTIES:
Maintain electronic records with proper sequencing and charting, update medical histories and obtain vital signs after seating a patient. When treatment is completed, direct patient to Central Check-in desk for receipt of payment or new appointment if needed.
Take radiographs, administer fluoride, perform polishing, take impressions/pour stone models, and any other expanded functions, as prescribed by the attending DENTIST, within the parameters of the law.
Inventory, order and stock dental supplies as needed for entire dental clinic.
Prepare operatory and instruments as needed for direct patient care; disinfect, decontaminate, and sterilize operatory and instruments following patient care, as per clinic manual.
Change and maintain chemical and nonchemical fluid levels on a daily, weekly, or monthly regimen, as per clinic manual.
Maintain/monitor biohazardous materials and containers, as per clinic manual.
Assist DENTIST or dental hygienist in clinical procedures as prescribed by attending DENTIST
Abide by all HIPAA regulations as is required by law and FHCHC.
Perform other duties as assigned.
INTERMITTENT DUTIES:
Perform related duties as requested by the Dental Manager in order to establish and create a healthy physical and emotional environment for patient care.
Participate in in-service education and continuing education projects to improve and expand skills.
QUALIFICATIONS: Current certification as a Dental Assistant and/or two years of experience for each year of education.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of dental assisting experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE: Must have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write, and speak English fluently with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful. Must have current knowledge of dental and medical terminology and equipment as used in the dental environment. Possess the ability to assist in assessing projected or real needs of the dental clinic and its clients.
SKILLS: Provide own transportation. Operate a typewriter, personal computer, calculator, and basic dental equipment. Possess the ability to establish a good rapport with patients of varying socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Above average organizational skills a definite plus.
Interpersonal: Frequent contact with public, department personnel, and other professionals.
Supervisory: None.
Working Conditions: No adverse working conditions in the clinic facilities. May be subjected to clients who may be hostile. May be required to work overtime.
Physical Requirements: Requires sufficient visual acuity to be able to read, write and operate equipment common to this position. Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to effectively communicate with people directly or by telephone. May be required to experience brief periods of intense physical effort in the handling of dental equipment and supplies.
Problem-Solving: Frequent problems arise that are outside established policies or bodies of knowledge calling for high level problem-solving skills. Must be able to adapt and be flexible in diverse situations.
Decision-Making: Frequent situations arise calling for careful and analytical judgement.
Financial/Budgetary: Work with budgetary restraints when ordering and stocking dental supplies.
